De stat Dordrecht met de aenpalende landen als Out Dubbeldam, den Zuyt en Noortpolder, den Alloysen ....
Commentary

This map of the island of Dordrecht was published in an earlier edition in 1673. The surveyor that appears in the cartouche at the top left of this edition is Mattheus van Nispen (1629-1717). In the second edition of 1725, shown here, his name has been replaced by that of his great-grandson, Mattheus de Vries (1681-1751).

Compared to the first edition, the second edition shows the dike breaches of 1713, 1715 and 1717. Apart from these dike breaches, a number of other, mainly hydraulic, changes have been made. For example, the course of the Merwede River has been radically altered and the area of 'Den Ouden Dyck' has been added. Furthermore, several estates have been added in 'Het Oude Lant van Dubbeldam'.

The printed map is based on a manuscript map entitled 'Caerte, vertende alle de landen gelegen in de respective polders en dijckagien onder den Ambachte vande Mijl en Dubbeldam [...]'. This map is located in the National Archives in The Hague (VTH 2194).
