About fifty of the woodcuts which illustrate this Bible (mainly in the Pentateuch) are more accomplished than the others. Their designer is known as the Master of the Lübeck Bible. The cuts in the Dance of Death, Lübeck, 1489, have also been attributed to him. The other cuts in the Lübeck Bible are considered to be the work of a lesser artist but one who was influenced by the Master. Nicolaus Bucholt, custos of the Lübeck Franciscan custody, has been proposed as translator and editor. See: Schwencke, Olaf. Die Glossierung alttestamentlicher Bücher in der Lübecker Bibel von 1494, 1967, pages 188-190. Text printed in two columns, 66 lines and heading. Woodcut initials.
