With the presentation of our Index Seminum 1984 we take the opportunity to give you some further information on the Botanic Gardens of Utrecht University.

We have to report that the concentration of the gardens in the new university center quot;De Uithofquot; has still to be carried out. For more detailed information on our gardens the reader is referred to the quot;International Directory of Botanical Gardens IVquot; (1983). Moving our office to the new address is the first step towards this concentration.

The specialization program carried out by the Dutch university botanic gardens is in progress in most of the gardens now. Our gardens are developing collections of the following groups and taxa: Alpines, ferns (Polypodiaceae), Flora of the Neotropics, Annonaceae, Moraceae, Zingiberaceae, conifers, Aceraceae, Betula-ceae, Ericaceae, Oleaceae, Euonymus, Laburnum and Magnolia.

At this moment most of our attention is given to the Annonaceae, Polypodiaceae, Cecropia, Dorstenla, Ficus, Flora of the Guianas, Acer, Betula, Euonymus, Laburnum and Syringa.

We are especially interested in material from natural

-3-

-ocr page 6-

sources of the mentioned groups and taxa. We will be much obliged if (besides the material from your seed-catalogue) you can supply us with other species or call our attention to special stocks in your collections,

From 1983 our data base is operational. In the course of the next year we expect to publish the first edition of the catalogue of our special collections (see above). The seeds and spores in this list have been taken from verified plants and only if we were reasonably sure that cross-pollination with related species would be unlikely. As a result of bad weather conditions during last season, many plants produced little or no seeds. Therefore this index contains a limited number of species.

Species from natural sources are marked with - ! -.

All requests for seeds and spores, duly marked on the enclosed number-list should be addressed to:

Request reaching us before March 1985 will be handled in sequence of entry. In the beginning of 1986 we will

dispatch later arrived requests.
