With the presentation of our Index Seminum 1386 we take the opportunity to inform you on some recent developments concerning the University Botanic Gardens of Utrecht.
~ From 1382 onuiards our computerized database is operational. In May 1386 ue have developed a P.C. CPei— sonal Computer! orientated system, called BUD (Botanic Gardens Utrecht Database system!, which not only manages a database of nearly 16.000 accessions, but also covers a series of programs affiliated with the database .
- One of the first results of this equipment (BUD! was the compilation of a catalogue which contains a sui— vey of our collections and an account of the various parts of it. This ’’Catalogue of Plant Collections” was published in October 1386.
- This seedlist is also published using BUD, thus avoiding the laborious typing of lists.
- The previously announced concentration of the Gardens in the University Center ’'De Uithof” in Utrecht (the Main Garden project! now enters its executive phase. In 1387 the new greenhouses will be constructed and the collections from Cantonspark and Sandwijck will be moved to the main Barden Fort Hoofddijk, after which the locations at Baarn and Oe Bilt will no longer form part of the Botanic Bardens.
- The Decentralized National Plant Collection:
The 8 Dutch University Botanic Bardens developed a plan for the realization of a national collection. Each participating Barden specializes in a number of taxa and takes responsibility for these taxa in the other Bardens. The Botanic Gardens of Utrecht are developing collections of the following groups and taxa :
