5. Sandwijok Estate, Be Bilt. The old woodland gardens have been acquired by the Utrecht State University and cover over 30 HA , the main part of which is still to be developed. Special collections of tropical and sub-tropical greenhouse plants, primarily for systematic research on the neotropical flora. The village of De Bilt is situated approx. 4 KM East of Utrecht. The gardens are not open to the public.
Considering the large collections of plants in our gardens it is assumed they can only be partly evaluated by the publication of a seed list. At present we are converting our card index into a computerized system, taking up all the plant material that has been verified in the five departments of our gardens. From 1977 onwards our seed list is issued only once every two years. You are therefore kindly requested to keep the present list for your reference in 1980 and 1981.
After a transgression period the computer system will accumulate all relevant data. A computer print-out will be mailed every five years in principle. Within some years our seeds will be stored in a seed bank and become available upon request.
All requests for seeds and spores, duly marked on the enclosed numbered list should be addressed to :
University Botanical Gardens
Transitorium 2,
Heldelberglaan 2,
3508 TC UTEECHT , The Netherlands.
All requests for seeds and spores reaching us before April 1980 will be handled in rotation of entry dates. Requests reaching us after that date will be sent out in the beginning of 1981. Owing to the severe winter 1978/1979 the seed harvest has been smaller than usual. The seed batches sent out this year will be limited in size and number.
