A satirical vindication by Fraçois Hotman of Henry IV and Condé from their excommunication by Pope Sixtus V. It advocated the abolition of Salic law and proposed that the French monarchy should be elective. The papacy took this popular squib very seriously and put it in the first class of the Index.
