Annotation | Year of publication from colophon. Woodcut image on t.p., depicting the coat of arms of the Medici popes (Leo X, Clement VIII). Peter Geduldig, writing under the latinized form of his last name (Patiens) was a preacher in the city of Frankfurt. In this tract he issues a warning against the Jubilee Year of 1575, proclaimed by Pope Gregory XIII. The woodcut image on the title is not the coat of arms of Gregory XIII, but of the Medici popes (Leo X had excommunicated Luther, and his papacy continued to be seen by many Protestants as the epitome of Roman Catholic corruption and resistance to reform). Initials. Signatures: A-R⁴; A1v, and R4v are blank. Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachbereich erschienenen Drucke des 16. Jahrhunderts (VD 16), G 679 | Translate
