Bought at the Beijers auction of 1 June 2010, lot 331, previously kept in the United States. In May 1909 this collection was auctioned by F. Muller in Amsterdam (Manuscrits généalogiques et historiques …), lot 153: Généalogies de familles nobles allemandes, italiennes et anglaises, par Arn. Buchelius. Manuscrit autographe, vers 1600. 98 pages, in-4 obl. Ce manuscrit important contient plus de 400 armoiries dessinées en couleurs. Nous citons les familles suivantes: Meurs, v.d. Lippe, Diepholt, Neukirchen, Hutten, Fronsberg, Hohenlohe, etc.; - Colonne, Gonzaga, Appiani, Bentivogli, Spinola, Montferrat, Strozza, etc.; - Leicester, Cester, Spencer, Percey, Mortimer; etc. Apart from a few pages now missing, this agrees with this collection of 45 fols. The collection had been obtained in 1906 at the Smissaert auction in Amsterdam (Manuscrits provenant des collections …), nr. 289 nrs LXXI, LXXIII en LXXIV. Smissaert had bought them at the auction of the library of Willem Jan Royaards van den Ham (1829-1897), at Beijers, Utrecht, in 1899, II, p. 153, no. 3055, where Buchelius’ genealogical manuscript collection was sold as one item of 1530 pages in two maps. Previous owners of this collection have not been identified with certainty, but in his record of Buchelius’ manuscripts, Cornelis Booth (1605-1678) refers to ‘Tabulae et scedae variae genealogicae’ (Utrecht, University Library, Ms. 1831, fol. 1v). Bound in modern red morocco binding, tooled in gold, with the title: ‘Aernout Buchel (1565-1641) Genealogiae. Aut sors, aut virtus’ (the motto of the Van Buchell family). | Vertaal
