Psalterium Latinum
Commentary

PSALM LXXIX (80), f. 47r.
The beardless, cross-nimbed Christ-Logos holding a book is seated within a mandorla supported by two cherubim (verse 2, (1)) and flanked by six angels. Below the Christ-Logos stands Christ, beardless and cross-nimbed, as 'the son of man' (verses 16, (15) and 18, (17)) with a wreath above His head. To right and left of Him are four figures who are probably Joseph, Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh (verses 2-3, (1-2)). At the extreme right are some sheep ('thou that leadest Joseph like a flock,' verse 2, (1)). Below them is a man weeping and holding a cup in his hand ('... and givest them tears to drink in great measure,' verse 6, (5)). Below Christ two men are breaking down a wall (verse 13, (12): 'maceriam eius'). Beside them are vines, palm-trees, and cedars (verses 9-12, (8-11). The cedars at the left create a shadow on the hillside as described in verse 11, (10). In the middle three men have 'broken down the hedge,' and passers-by 'pluck it' (verse 13, (12)). A 'boar out of the wood' (verse 14, (13)) is also devouring part of the vine. At the bottom of the picture is the sea (verse 12, (11)).
