Psalterium Latinum
Commentary

PSALM LXXXIII (84), f. 49r.
Rays from the Hand of God (verse 12, (11)) issuing from an arc of heaven fall upon David (or the Messiah?) as king, 'thine anointed' (verse 10, (9)), who is standing to the left within a walled city and in front of the tabernacle of the Lord in which are those 'that dwell in thy house,' an altar, and a chandelier (verses 2, (1), 4, (3) and 5, (4)). On the top of the hill to the left is the 'legislator,' (verse 7 in the Latin) holding an open scroll and addressing a group of men standing on steps or 'ascents' (verse 6, (5), 'ascensiones'). In the center of the picture is another representation of the psalmist who prefers to be a lowly person in the house of the Lord than to dwell in the tents of the wicked (verse 11, (10)), which are pitched outside the walls where the wicked are indulging in all sorts of violence. Some are fighting about a table on which gold was being weighed out. In the upper right-hand corner is the dove which has found a 'nest for herself, where she may lay her young' (verse 4, (3)).
