PSALM XXXI (32), f. 18r.
The composition of this illustration is extremely symmetrical. The beardless, nimbed Christ-Logos in a half mandorla flanked by six angels and by the sun (personified), moon and stars, suggested by the 'day and night' of verse 4, occupies the center of the heavens. Three other angels in the next lower register support two large curtains which cover two groups of the 'blessed whose sin is covered' (verse 1). In the next register two bands of soldiers represent the 'trouble' which surrounds the psalmist, who is (verse 7) crouched among the thorn bushes on a hill between the soldiers (verse 4, 'spina'). Below him, three men are attempting to subdue the 'horse' and the 'mule' with bit, bridle (verse 9), and whip (verse 10). The 'floods of great waters' (verse 6) with fish swimming in them stretches across the entire foreground.
