Psalterium Latinum
Commentary

PSALM XLII (43), f. 25r, the upper picture.
At the left of the picture is an armed group of the 'enemy' against whom the psalmist complains in verses 1 and 2. To their right the personification of 'truth,' bearing a palmbranch, approaches the bearded psalmist, who holds a lute, to lead him to the 'holy hill and to thy tabernacles' (verse 3). Rays issue from a Hand of God in the direction of the psalmist. On the 'holy hill' at the right is a sanctuary with drawn curtains revealing a covered altar and a lamp; and behind it are two tents, variants in illustration of the word 'tabernacles' (verses 3 and 4).
