PSALM LVI (57), f. 32r.
The illustrator has availed himself of the space to create a very balanced composition. In the center on the top of a hill, the bearded, cross-nimbed Christ-Logos is standing within a mandorla supported by two angels (or cherubim). He is attended by eleven men, possibly the apostles (verses 6, (5) and 12, (11)). Two small angels approach the upper corners of the mandorla, and two others emerge above the ground line, one on either side of the men. They have their backs turned on these groups and face two lower groups of aggressors with spears, bows and arrows, and at least one 'sharp sword' (verse 5, (4)). The bearded psalmist, holding a harp (verse 9, (8)), is standing in front of his bed (verse 5, (4): 'dormivi conturbatus'). He is supported by an angel with wide-spread wings (verse 2, (1): 'in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge'). A lion and a lioness are to left and right of him (verse 5, (4)). In the foreground below the psalmist the men who have dug a pit are falling into it; two men with mattocks turn away from the pit (verse 7, (6)).
