Psalterium Latinum
Commentary

PSALM LXV (66), f. 36v.
The beardless, cross-nimbed Christ-Logos is passing across the heavens amidst five angels, two with cross-staffs. The Christ-Logos himself is carrying a shield (verse 7) as an attribute of His 'power' (verse 3). In the middle register to the left is a tabernacle with drawn curtains revealing a chandelier, 'thy house' (verse 13). The psalmist is driving a group of sacrificial animals before him to an altar in front of the tabernacle and is pointing to his mouth (verses 13 and 14; 'I will go into thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay thee my vows which my lips have uttered and my mouth hath spoken' and verse 17). Behind the psalmist is a group of people whom the psalmist urges in verse 4 to adore the Lord and in verse 8 to praise the Lord. In the lowest register are the various trials mentioned in verses 10 to 12: to the right a group is passing through water; in the middle four men are standing in a fiery furnace and are raising their hands to heaven; to the left four others who lay 'afflictions on our loins' are raising whips against the psalmist (verse 7).
