Psalterium Latinum
Commentary

PSALM LXXV (76), f. 43v.
The beardless, cross-nimbed Christ-Logos is seated on a globe in the midst of the heavens, surrounded by six angels. To the right is a walled enclosure in which is 'his dwelling place,' the tabernacle (verse 3, (2)). People within the city hold offerings and extend them towards the Christ-Logos in heaven (verse 12, (11)). Outside the city walls a man is pointing to his mouth with one hand and appeals to the Christ-Logos with the other; he is the 'vow' of the same verse. In the corresponding position on the left side of the picture is a group of men, some of whom are holding lighted tapers (verse 5, (4): 'illuminans tu mirabiliter a montibus aeternis'). In the center of the middle register is another representation of the beardless, cross-nimbed Christ-Logos who is repulsing two groups of the wicked (verse 4, (3)). In the central foreground three horsemen 'are cast into a dead sleep' by small winged genii (verse 7, (6)). Further to the right some of the 'foolish' are 'sleeping their sleep,' also attended by genii (verse 6, (5)). Between them and the sleeping horsemen are empty vessels which are suggested by the Latin of verse 6, (5) which reads: '... et nihil invenerunt omnes viri divitiarum in manibus suis.'
