Annotation Blank leaves: 1-26, 46, 51, 53-56, 59-89. Contains 28 entries written by the members of the famous Utrecht literary society "Dulces ante omnia musae". Mostly dating to 1770-1775, the were written by the friends an fellow students of Simon Brand van Someren (1752-1800), who had the strongest interest in literature and was also a member. As his friends tried to match the high standards of the society, the entries are of particular interest for their literary merits. Three of the entries are inscribed in 1794, during Brand's time in Zutphen. -- Information provided by antiquarian Cite as: Universiteitsbibliotheek Utrecht Hs 35 A 26 Asher (Firm); t Goy-Houten; Purchase; 2026 Simon Brand van Someren (Gorinchem, 1752-Dordrecht, 1800) was a very eloquent minister and eminent theologian, who studied at Utrecht University. He was entered in the Album Studiosorum in 1774, the year he received his doctoral degree in philosophy with the dissertation "Dissertatio moralis de legibus divinis positivis universalibus". From 1775 he served as a minister in Vuren (1755), Maasland (1777), Zutphen (1798) and Dordrecht (1800). Entries in Dutch, French or Latin, often with a Latin, Greek or Hebrew "symbolum". Contemporary gold-tooled mottled calf, sewn on 4 supports with the corresponding raised bands on the spine, in the center of both covers an inlay of plain, somewhat lighter calf, with "Album Amicorum" lettered in gold on the front, and "S[imo]n. Brand L[itt.]. H[um.]. S[tud.]. 1770 on the back, both surounded by two ornamental borders, gold-tooled board edges, marbled endpapers, gilt edges.
